WELCOME to the Fall Edition of CARDWATCH PERSPECTIVES, a quarterly e- publication produced specifically for the = Retirement Community market and its Administrators. This edition we focus on "Vision". Too often we confuse Vision with Mission, in other words, we tend to focus on what we do every day instead of where we're headed.

As federal elections draw near in both Canada and the Un= ited States, we are reminded of the importance of vision in leadership. With= a strong vision, we can unite our team, our community and in fact, even a Nation. What's your vision?

These words, spoken by President John F. Kennedy on May 25th, 1961, a= re perhaps the Western world's best known example of a vision statement.= In a single sentence of sparkling clarity, JFK set out the success parameters for an enormously complex project that would consume billi= ons of dollars and the dedicated work of many thousand Americans. His pur= pose was to unite the country by demonstrating supremacy over the arch-riv= al Soviet space program.

Kennedy's call contained the three elements essential = to any effective vision.

Vision in the Kitchen: Jeff Henderso= n's Incredible Story

Jeff Henderson who today is a renowned chef and author, found his cal= ling in an unlikely place: a grim federal penitentiary kitchen. Raised by a single mother, thwarted by poverty and lured into a seedy high-dollar drug world, this young Los Angeles native seemed destined to languish behind bars after receiving a 19-year sentence for his crimes. Instea= d, he redirected the ambitions that nearly ruined his life into his pass= ion for cooking. Henderson overcame unimaginable adversity to eventually reach the top of his profession, becoming executive chef at Caf&eacut= e; Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Windows XP Retires

...and you thought only people retire at your communit= y!

As of June 30th, 2008, Microsoft stopped licensing the XP operating system on new OEM computers. This naturally will affect many areas of your IT operation including CARDWATCH and some manufacturer's periphe= rals such as Epson receipt printers which are currently not Vista compatib= le / certified .
